William Stycke Obituary

In Loving Memory of William Stycke (1921 - 2017)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) George Stycke who passed away in Claresholm, Alberta on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the age of 96 years. Born in Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba, son of the late Nicholas (Nick) Styk (birthplace, Grambola, Austria) and of the late Mary (née Skamarowski) Styk, (birthplace, Austria). Predeceased by his siblings, Gloria Robinson, Anne Mather-Fortin and Jim Styck.
Loving father of Deborah, Carol, Barbara, Dale, David (predeceased), and Richard.
Grandchildren - Steven, Cydney, Alex, Amie, Michelle, Jason, Charlene, Mark, Jamie (predeceased) and Vincent, and great-grandfather to many.

Bill was a no-nonsense man who believed in hard work and keeping life simple. He took pride in doing things the right way. He worked with his hands, found joy in the little things, and led by example—especially when it came to raising his six children. You always knew where he stood, not by what he said, but by what he did. He could be tough when he had to be, but it always came from a place of love and a desire to give them the best life he could.

Family was everything to Bill. Everything he did was driven by that love, and by the hope that he was building something better for those he cared about. When Bill and his wife Gerry built their first home from the ground up in Norval, Ontario, it was a place for them and their six children to grow and thrive. Eventually, they made the bold decision to sell the house and head west in search of a new beginning. Without a clear destination in mind, Bill packed up all their belongings and children, hit the road, and set out on their journey. He even built a custom camper for the kids to travel in and towed a trailer carrying everything they owned. Their journey led them to Calgary, Alberta, where they chose to settle down and start a new chapter in their lives.

He was a jack of all trades. He started out driving transport trucks, but later became a skilled carpenter who took real pride in his work. If something needed fixing—even a vehicle—Bill had a knack for figuring it out. Over the years, he bought old, run-down houses, fixed them up, and turned them into homes for others. Outside of work, Bill found peace in his vegetable garden. He enjoyed getting his hands in the dirt, watching things grow, and sharing it with his family. It was one of the quiet joys in his life.

Bill loved the open road. When the mood struck, he’d hitch up the trailer, climb into his Dodge Ram, and just go. No destination needed—sometimes it was just about the ride. That kind of freedom, that simplicity, made him feel more alive than anything else.

Bill’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the things he built, and the family he raised. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be no formal service.

Rest in peace Bill, you will forever be missed and loved.
