William Campbell Obituary

William Lawrence Campbell “Wild Bill” March 9, 1942 - September 16, 2024 With profound sadness, the family of William Lawrence Campbell announces his passing on September 16, 2024. Born in North Bay, Ontario, on March 9, 1942, Bill was adopted by Fred and Rosella Campbell on May 18, 1943. Raised in Timmins, ON, Bill’s adventurous spirit led him to drive long-haul trucks at 16 and work in an underground gold mine. At 19, he joined the army for a year before returning to truck driving, a career he pursued until retiring at 75 to be closer to family in Claresholm, AB. Bill was passionate about stock car racing, proudly racing and winning with his own stock car. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling to visit friends and family, and had a deep love for animals, always accompanied by a dog on the road—from Tiger to PJ. Known for his playful pranks at restaurant truck stops, Bill’s antics included convincing waitresses of outlandish tales, like losing his index finger in a cup of strong coffee. Predeceased by his parents, Fred and Rosella Campbell; his sister, Kathrine Beauline; his brother, John Campbell; and his great-granddaughter, Mia Campbell, Bill is lovingly remembered by his children, Tim (Monica) Campbell and David Campbell; grandchildren Ashlee (Aaron) Brinkman, Brandon (Tesela) Campbell, and Jordy Campbell; and great-grandchildren Thomas, Benjamin, and Elaina, along with many other family and friends. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and exceptional nursing staff at Claresholm General Hospital for their compassionate care of Bill.

In accordance with Bill’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society at https://cancer.ca/en/
