Walter Leonard Pickering
Walter was born in Coaldale, Alberta, on January 24, 1940, and passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on October 20, 2022, at 10:27 pm.
After completing the first grade in Coaldale, Walter's family moved to Claresholm, Alberta, where he completed his education. On February 12, 1963, Walter married the love of his life, Mary Zumik, in Fort Macleod, Alberta, on an uncharacteristically beautiful February day. They soon settled in Calgary, Alberta, where Walter gained employment with Good Year Canada Inc. He began with humble beginnings as a "tire man" and completed his career in a management position after 34 years of loyal service.
Walter is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary, and their three sons, Leonard, David, and James, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Bernice, Linda, and Yvonne. Walter is predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Ann Pickering and his sisters, Ione and Marlene.
Walter's love of baseball kept him active with Little League Canada as an Umpire and took him to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Be in peace, Walter.
The Celebration of Walters life will be postponed to a later date when the weather is better for safe travels.
