It is with profound sadness that his family announces his passing on November 10, 2025 at the age of 79 years.
Ron was born and raised in a small fishing village in Nova Scotia and made his first trek out west in the late 60's. He returned to Nova Scotia where he met and married his partner for life and after the untimely passing of his father, he once again made his way to Alberta with his new wife, mother and sister where he would remain for the rest of his life.
Ron was bitten square on the flank by the cowboy bug on his first trip west and later became an adept “Bluenose Cowboy”. He raised, broke, rode, and roped from the back of many a fine quarter horse all while his Cowgirl wife was riding right next to him.
He was a cabinet maker by trade and the talent he had for the fine work he did blended in to many of the hobbies he would enjoy over his lifetime. He greatly enjoyed hockey and while he didn't play himself, besides with the kids on the Arrowwood Rink, he still found ways to be involved. He was the trainer for a couple of the teams in the “Senior League” both in Okotoks and in Vulcan. His attention to detail made him an excellent artist and he could be found sketching, painting and shading most of his free time. Archery, square dancing and playing guitars were his favourite things to do and in his later years he found a way to combine his career with a hobby when he began designing and building acoustic guitars.
He was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Edith, an older brother David, a young nephew, David Jr., and a younger sister, Marie. He is lovingly survived by his wife and partner of 54 years, Shirley, daughter Dulcie (Brian), a grandson, Jesse, a sister, Eileen (Bernie) and numerous nephews and nieces.
Per Ron's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Ron's name.
The sun has set,
The horse is put away,
Time for rest ol' cowboy,
Your big ride ended today.
