Norma E. DeMaere

It is with great sadness that the family of Norma E. DeMaere (nee Dahl) announce her passing on January 6, 2023, at the age of 80.

Norma was born in Claresholm on August 7, 1942. She grew up on a farm on the eastern outskirts of Claresholm and was the only child of Nels and Agathe Dahl. Norma completed her schooling in Claresholm where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Donald A. DeMaere on March 24, 1962. They lived in Calgary and Vulcan prior to returning to Claresholm where they raised their three children. Norma loved her family deeply. She created many family traditions that included having an abundance of Norwegian foods at Christmas. She was at the heart of all family gatherings. 

Norma had a great sense of humor and a sharp mind for numbers. She was always interested in technology and easily developed computer skills to master everything from accounting to online shopping and social media. Norma managed raising a busy family and working outside the home. She enjoyed working as a bookkeeper at Lambe’s Trucking and later on at Lakeside Milling until her retirement. 

Norma enjoyed gardening, camping, and spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed following current events. She was generous with her time and supported many charities. Norma was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and was thrilled to have connected with many relatives in recent years.

Norma will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kevin (Julie) DeMaere, Carmen (Bill) Stronski, and Karen DeMaere (Brad); grandchildren Taylor (Gord) French, Quentin Stronski and Ryan Stronski; great grandchildren Leo and Hudson French; as well as numerous relatives in Canada and Norway. Norma was predeceased by her husband Don and by her parents, Nels and Agathe Dahl.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Peace Lutheran church - 4304 2 St W, Claresholm, AB on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 2:00 P.M.
