Mary Mawer, beloved mother of Carol Simpson, passed away peacefully at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Center on February 24, 2018 at the age of 101. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Carol and son-in-law David; 4 step grandchildren Stanley (Deb) Simpson of High River, Chiki (Arnold) Vegter of Claresholm, Frank (Cindy) Simpson of Claresholm, Flint (Chris) Simpson of Canmore; step daughter Edith Brunet of London, Ontario; 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece Diane (Oscar) Nielsen of Fernie, B.C. as well as their son Ryan and two grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her first husband Frank Hicks in 1969, her second husband Bill Mawer in 1992, her only sister Victoria in 1993 and son Jimmy in 1995.
Mary was born at home in Morrissey Mines, B.C. on October 31, 1916. She married Frank Hicks in 1944 and moved onto “Haden Farm” where she lived until 1998 when she moved to Claresholm and quickly became known as the “Quilt Lady”.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church (4304-2nd Street West, Claresholm). If friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to the Claresholm and District Health Foundation (Box 2638, Claresholm, Alberta T0L 0T0).
