In Loving Memory of Maria Luisa "Malou" DeVera

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Luisa "Malou" DeVera, who was born on March 30, 1952, in the Philippines.

Malou began her working life in a tobacco factory before pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse. Through hard work and determination, she earned her Registered Nursing degree and went on to serve for several years as both a hospital nurse and a company nurse at the tobacco factory, dedicating her life to caring for others.

In 1986, Malou was given the opportunity to immigrate to Canada. She settled in Calgary, Alberta, where she became a loving and devoted nanny to several families. Her kindness, patience, and nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on the children she cared for and the families who welcomed her into their homes.

In March 2000, Malou met the love of her life, Earl Olson. Together they made their home in Claresholm, Alberta, where they shared 26 wonderful years together. During her years in Claresholm, Malou continued helping the Calgary families she loved while also becoming an active member of her local church and working in various roles throughout the community.

Known affectionately as the "Energizer Bunny," Malou seemed to have endless energy and a heart that never stopped giving. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or prepare a meal for anyone in need. No one ever left her home hungry, and everyone who met her experienced her warmth, compassion, and generous spirit.

Malou's beautiful heart touched countless lives. Though she will be deeply missed, her love, kindness, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

May she rest in eternal peace.
