Margaret Roemmele Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Roemmele (nee Taylor) on Thursday May 16th, 2024 at the age of 77 years. A loving wife, mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Margaret passed away peacefully at the Claresholm General Hospital, surrounded by family, following a courageous battle against cancer. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bryan Roemmele, daughter Lora Lynn Harris (Ivan), Grandsons Connor Harris(Natalie), Curtis Harris(Taylor), and Great Granddaughter (Grey Cameron Harris), along with ”adopted” daughter Cheri Pearce, in addition to many other “adopted” family members. Margaret was predeceased by her son, Bryan Cameron Roemmele, her father Allyn Taylor, her mother Audrey Taylor (nee Little) and her brother Alex Taylor.

Margaret was born in Kamloops, British Columbia on October 27, 1946. As the daughter of a Hudson’s Bay Store manager they moved many times, from Sarnia, Ontario to Powell River on the west coast before settling in beautiful Nelson, B.C. in 1958. Margaret worked many odd jobs as a teenager, including that of a certified lifeguard. She left Nelson in 1965 to further her education at Mount Royal College in Calgary where she met her future husband, Bryan. They were married on Sept. 2nd, 1967 in Nelson, BC.  Margaret moved to Edmonton where she proudly said she worked to put Bryan through his final year at University of Alberta. A transfer resulted in the family moving to Calgary in 1975. After raising her children to school age she took a job as Administration Manager in Corporate Security at the Bank of Montreal, where she worked until she retired in 1996.

While she had no desire to return to Nelson to live, she loved the mountains and the family spent their summer vacations every year at Kootenay Lake, from 1971 right up to the present. Following Bryan’s retirement in 2006 she agreed it was time to leave the cold Alberta winters behind. Margaret embraced the Snowbird life finding the warm climate of Yuma, Arizona was more to her liking, taking up residence for 6 months each year in a beautiful RV park just outside of Yuma, where they stayed for 17 years.

Not one to sit idly by, Margaret immersed herself in sewing, quilting and craft activities. This eventually led her into volunteer work including fundraising for worthy charities that ultimately became associated with Del Pueblo RV park, where they wintered. As Chairperson, she led a team of volunteers that supported the Old Souls Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Society. She loved anything on four feet, other than mice, rats and other rodents, so it was a natural fit. After Old Souls relocated to Waco, Texas, her group found a new charity to sponsor, one that became near and dear to her heart…the Yuma Child Burn Survivor Foundation. Starting from a modest $1400 in donations for the first year her group expanded that to over $7000 in 2023,  becoming one of the primary sponsors of the Foundation. As a result of her dedication and fund raising efforts, the RV park received a plaque and award from the Foundation, which was presented to Margaret as representative of the park.

Our family would like to sincerely thank all of the nurses of the Claresholm Health Care Unit who provided her with home care services, treating her as a friend, rather than just a patient, always greeting her warmly with a smile. We would also like thank the doctors and nurses at Claresholm General Hospital for going the extra mile while providing exemplary care and services for her and our family throughout the toughest of times.
