Linda Stirling Obituary

Linda Diane Stirling, May 15 /1946 - March 8/2026, was born in Brandon, MB to Charles & Ruth Grant, the first of 6 children. She was raised on a dairy farm, where responsibility was learned at an early age.  As a young girl she loved riding horses, her favourite being a sassy Pinto ‘Little Dawn.’ She was also involved with many school activities, 4-H and curling.

Grades 1-8 were attended in a one room schoolhouse at Chater, a short time at Douglas School, then finishing High School at Elton Collegiate, Forrest. She completed her Education Degree at Brandon University, with her first teaching position at Rossburn, MB. Diane later moved to Winnipeg to teach and met her husband of 47 years, Cameron Stirling. After their marriage, they moved to Grandview, MB where Diane continued teaching kindergarten & grade 1 until her retirement, then substitute taught until her mid 70’s. Diane loved her students and enjoyed following their progress along their chosen career paths. She had a long fulfilling career where she was highly respected by students and colleagues.

Diane and Cameron were deeply rooted in the Grandview community sponsoring and participating in many local events. Being raised on a farm, Diane loved all animals. She and Cam had many pets of cats and dogs through their lives together.  The ‘Stirling Enterprises’ shop was a safe haven for many a rescue and stray. She developed a love for hiking & cross country skiing with her friends and nieces and was always a huge supporter of any family that were involved in different sports. Many a trip was taken to watch nieces Laura and Jenna Dixon play softball. Her other interests included reading, charades, crossword puzzles and she was especially good at Scrabble. Everyone wanted her on their team!

Diane was a beautiful, gentle soul who was a blessing to us all and will be dearly missed by the entire Stirling Clan of Grandview: her sister Susan Grant-Nanton, her brother Ted(Stacey) Grant-Calgary, sister Alison(Bob) Dixon-Brandon, sister Kathy Grant-Claresholm, nieces & nephews Scott(Anh) Chuchmuch-Calgary, Jeff(Erin) Chuchmuch -Thunder Bay, Laura(Kris Thomson)-Vanuatu, Jenna Dixon(Pete O’Hara)-Canmore, JJ(Laura)Grant-Calgary, Ashleigh(David Pain)-San Diego, Kade (Kelsey)Grant-Johansen-Calgary, and Alison Long (Ljubisa Bogojevic)-Calgary.

Diane is predeceased by her parents Charlie & Ruth Grant, her sister Heather, and her beloved husband Cameron Stirling.
