Leonard Maddison Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Leonard (Len) William Maddison announce his peaceful passing in the early morning hours of September 9, 2021.

Len was born on September 30, 1945, in Turner Valley, AB, where he was raised along with his 5 sisters. He later moved to Calgary, where he met the love of his life, Lucill. The happy couple were married on August 14, 1965, and welcomed their first son, Royd in 1966. Their second son, Kevan arrived the following year. The family moved to various communities around Calgary, but in 1976 they relocated to the family farm south of the city. In 1983, the couple welcomed their surprise child, their daughter, Lauren.

In 1971, Len joined the Calgary Fire Department. A hard worker by nature, Len worked on the force for 31 years, retiring as a Captain in 2002. When not out fighting fires, Len would work on the family farm raising animals and planting crops. Len also became known by many in Calgary's bowling community. He married into the business and ended up a regular in the weekly 5 and 10 pin leagues and would help out whenever possible by fixing the machines.

A love of travel started early on for Len and Lucill. Together they would embark on camping trips and bus adventures to the US and all around Canada and fly to tropical destinations like Australia, Jamaica and Cuba. Len loved cars, Cadillacs in particular. He would spend many hours polishing his rides and making sure they were in tip-top shape.

In 2009, the couple moved to Stavely, AB and it was here, in his later years that Len found his true faith in God.  His strong devotion to his faith led him to many great relationships within Claresholm, AB and the surrounding communities.

Len is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucill (nee Patterson) and her extended family; his sons Royd Maddison of Elk Point, AB and Kevan Maddison (Lynne Garrett) of Toronto, ON; and by his daughter, Lauren Young (Curtis) of Foothills, AB. He will be loving remembered by his two grandchildren, Maddison and Connor Young. He is also survived by his mother, Marie, and by his 5 sisters and their extended families.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Claresholm General Hospital for the care and compassion they have shown to Len and his family.

Forever in our hearts.
