Leonard Arthur Burchill

If you’re reading this, then you loved Len. And if you didn’t know him, you would have loved him. Len was always curious, learning and sought out adventure. In the 1960s, when jobs were plentiful, he would apply for positions in which he had no expertise.  This pattern would continue throughout his life.  Sure enough, he would get these opportunities, always leaving the place better.  Len served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, did long haul truck driving, was in sales in various industries led bus tours, apartment manager and owner, to give you a small taste of his varied vocations.   He took great pride in these adventures. He was self-taught in so many ways.  An example of how Len had a natural gift at qualifying for occupations, without formal training, was when he took the qualifying exam to work in a prison in Nevada and scored 100%.   Even in retirement he was industrious.  You might know of his community contributions through his Lions work, where he established the motorized scooter program for seniors in Claresholm needing mobility support that continues today. Or when he led the collaborative efforts that shipped essential tools and medical aid to poor communities in Chile. If he was here today, he would try to talk your ear off about things he and his wife, Doris of 41 years, were up his three kids (Keith, Kevin, Karie), antique cars and other people in his life who inspired the good in others. As we send Len off with love, let us use his good works as an excuse to continue his legacy of being curious and making the world a better place.
