Jonina (Joan) Johnson

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mom, grama and great-grandmother (Amma), Jonina Johnson at the Claresholm General Hospital on April 17, 2018 at the age of 83.

She was predeceased by her infant daughter Peggy Louise, her parents Arni and Ingibjorg Matheson, brothers; Alvin Christianson, Johunn Matheson, Pall Matheson, and Marino Matheson, and great-grandson Brady Ewanick.

She leaves behind to mourn her loss, her beloved husband, Herbert, sons Gary (Mary McNeil), Herbert Jr. (Celia Palmer), daughters Sandra Johnson and Brenda Briggs (Norm McKay), 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and many other people she touched with her motherly love. 

Jonina was born in Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba and grew up in the Manitoba Interlake, where she met and married Herb, the love of her life, in Gimli, Manitoba in 1954.  She was a tailor for most of her life and owned her own business in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba until moving to Alberta in 1991.  She was a charter member of the La Prairie Lioness Club, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Military Collectors Club of Canada. Mostly she spent her life lovingly touching the hearts of those around her.
