Inger Mark Obituary

Inger Mark

April 17, 1957 — February 5, 2026

Inger Mark passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, February 5, 2026, with her daughter Cora by her side. After a courageous journey with Parkinson’s disease, Inger’s final days reflected her entire life: grounded in the family that served as her true north.

A Life of Adventure & Art

Born in Claresholm, Inger spent her childhood travelling across Canada, following her father’s Air Force career, and eventually settled in the western provinces to raise her family. She was a woman of spirit and independence; after the loss of her second husband, she reclaimed her maiden name and fulfilled a lifelong dream—travelling to Ireland with her long-time friend, Diane, to check a major item off her bucket list.

Inger never met a hobby she didn’t master. From ceramics to scrapbooking, her "idle" time was always filled with beauty and art in all its forms. She thrived in the outdoors, loving the simplicity of camping and rustic living. She was famously undaunted by a challenge, often hosting massive Thanksgiving dinners—complete with turkey and all—entirely on the BBQ for as many people as could gather around her table. Many will remember Inger for her infamous cooking skills. She filled your tummy and warmed your heart.

The Heart of a Grandmother

While she was a creator and a traveller, family was the true love of Inger’s life. She was at her happiest when being "silly" with her grandchildren, creating the cherished, laughing memories that her family will hold most dear. She is lovingly remembered by:

Her children: Andre Mark (Donna); Tobias Rapley (Megan); Rita McDonald (Donald); and Cora Steel (Denny).

Her grandchildren: Ellora, Danika, Mason; Theodore, Caileigh, Adalind, Liam; Dmitri, Cyrano, Lucien, Isidrio; Alyvia, Declan, and Keaton.

Her brother: David (Liz) and family.

Her stepson: Kevin (Erica) and children Hannah and Brayden.

Her nieces and nephews, and a vast circle of friends who grew to be family over the decades.

Inger was predeceased by her parents, Rita and George Mark; her brother, Stewart; and her husbands, Theodore Rapley and Colin McKinnon.

A Final Smile

In her later years, Inger moved from Rocky Mountain House to be closer to her daughters. At the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre, she was a bright light, spending her final days making new friends and bringing smiles to the faces of both staff and residents.

The family would like to thank all the close friends who have been so supportive and present during this challenging time.

A Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
