It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gerald Walter Jackson (Jerry) on May 26, 2025. Jerry passed away peacefully in his home at Willow Creek in Claresholm, while enjoying one of his favourite pastimes: watching hockey.
Jerry was born on September 22, 1939, in Calgary, Alberta. He was a good man who enjoyed the simple things in life, loved playing crib, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Jerry started his career with the federal government at Canada Post. He left his position to try his hand at farming in North Central Alberta. Later he returned to the government, working for the province for the rest of his career.
Jerry will be remembered for his generosity and giving back to his community in many ways. He was an active volunteer; including being a scout leader, helping with cancer awareness fundraisers, the local cribbage league and many more. He loved fishing and hunting, imparting his knowledge and respect for nature and the outdoors to his children.
Jerry was a dedicated family man, a loving husband and good father. He and his wife, Gail, were married for over sixty years, and in their later years he devoted his time to caring for her during her health challenges. Their home was welcoming to all and always included furry friends who benefitted from his love and kindness. He was a great gardener and loved spending his time planting and feeding the birds.
Jerry is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Margaret, stepmother, Wynn, sister, Gaye, brothers, Jim and George, and his wife Gail (Castleman). Jerry is survived by his half siblings, Cathie and Ian, his children, Walt (Terry), Rob (Sandi), Ken (Christine), and Diana (Max), his 10 grandchildren, as well as many extended family and friends.
There will be a family gathering at the Centennial Park Campground in Claresholm (4604 4 Street West) at 3:00 PM on June 28, 2025. In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations can be made to the Claresholm Animal Rescue Society: CAReS, (https://www.claresholmcares.org/donate) or the Claresholm Food Bank (https://www.claresholmfcss.ca/claresholm-food-bank/) in Jerry’s name.
