Frank Paul Kobler

Frank passed away at Foothills Medical Centre after suffering a tragic accident in Calgary.
He emigrated to Canada at 8 years old and grew up in southwestern Ontario on his parent's dairy farm. In high school, he excelled in mathematics and sciences and was a champion middle-distance runner. He graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1973 with a BSc degree in physics and mathematics and then did substitute teaching at his former high school for one school term. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1974 where he spent 7 years in the engineering corps, attaining the rank of Captain. Frank married Anne Papan in 1977 and their daughter, Cindy, was born in 1980. He and his wife had a beef cattle farm in northeastern Ontario until 1997 when they moved to Claresholm.
Frank worked as a computer programmer/systems analyst, first at Chinook Regional Hospital then in Calgary at Petro Canada and Tri-Ocean Engineering. He moved to Calgary in 2002 and lived there until his passing. He retired at the end of 2014 and spent his time skiing, travelling and golfing. His other interests included gardening, ballroom dancing, listening to rock and classical music and reading, especially history and science fiction.
Frank was predeceased by this father, Frank Sr., in 2014. He leaves behind his daughter Cindy Kobler, mother Frieda Kobler of Sarnia, Ontario, brother James (Lise, children Paul, Matthew, Jennifer and Geoffrey, stepdaughter Dani and grandson Carter) Kobler of Oil Springs, Ontario, brother John (Shirley) Kobler of Oil Springs, Ontario, sister Susan Georgescu of Detroit, Michigan, his uncle Walter Kobler and cousins in Austria and ex-wife Anne Papan.
