MIKLOS, Emil
November 30, 1939 – March 18, 2023
In September 1957 Emil arrived in Crooked River, SK with the grand sum of $5.00 in his pocket, ready to make a life for himself in Canada, his chosen new home. After working in Saskatchewan for 5 ½ years, he made his way to Calgary where he worked his way up the ladder to become Construction Manager of Calgary South for Nu-West Homes. Eventually, he and his lifelong partner founded Westward Construction and relocated to their home near Nanton. His motto was “We build the best and fix the rest.” His last project was a large custom built home in the beautiful foothills west of Claresholm. When it was completed on Christmas eve, he was presented with a gold medal “To Emil, for 17 square corners”. He kept in touch with the owners for the rest of his life. Good job, Partner, see you later!
During his brief curling career when he semi-retired, friend, Ken Wideman, persuaded him to try curling. One lucky afternoon they scored an 8 ender. Ken smiled and commented, “I’ve been curling for 40+ years and never scored an 8-ender.” Beginner’s luck? Or natural skill? We will never know as his curling career ended abruptly due to health issues.
Emil will be sadly missed by his wife, Gladys, his lifelong partner and best friend. He is also survived by his two sisters, Szidi Nagy and Margit (Karcsi) Murai, his sister-in-law, Rozsi Miklos, all of Hungary and his lifelong friend, George Jagasits of Omaha, NE. His Canadian family: Norma Cull, Del and Ruth Godman, Ray and Karin Morstad, all of Estevan, SK, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother Gyula, brother-in-law Naci Nagy, and his beloved little four legged friend “Rudy”.
It was Emil’s wish that no service be held.

I would like to thank Dr. Tenove for all the years looking after Emil, the staff at the Nanton Medical Clinic, the staff at the Claresholm Continuing Care Center, and Dr. Jones and the wonderful staff at the Claresholm Hospital for their tender, loving care. God Bless.
