Eddie was born west of Stavely to Beth (Connell) & Sid Cochlan and passed peacefully in Claresholm on July 10th, 2018.
He was a rancher and professional calf roper, taking great pride in his Hereford cow herd. A founding shareholder in the Waldron Ranch Grazing Co-op, he also sat on its Board of Directors. He was also a hunter and a Class A guide. He knew the mountains like the back of his hand.
Eddie was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed hockey, curling and golf. Ed coached hockey for most of his life and wore out many vehicles taking kids to games.
He was always passionate about family, friends and the community.
Eddie loved his wife Jean (Dahl) of 66 years and children Wendy Cochlan (Keith Roman), Berva Cochlan-Sawley (Darcy), Dace Cochlan and grandchildren Jace Moon, Alida South, Chace Lamb, Brett Lamb, Elijah Cochlan, Mathea Sawley, Hunter Sawley, Kolby Sawley, Sydney Cochlan. He doted on his great grandchildren: Brooks, Lucah, Evenee & Chesnee Lamb, Olivia and Wyatt Moon, Mason & Ally South, Edison & Westin Lamb.
He is a Lifetime member of the Stavely Elks, a Past Exalted Ruler and District Deputy.
In 2006, Eddie received the Calgary Stampede Western Legacy Award (Sustained Contribution) for acting as a consummate community organizer and leader, through his involvement in numerous organizations and his role in starting the Stavely Indoor Pro Rodeo and the Stavely Horseshow and Amateur Rodeo.
While we mourn his passing, we celebrate his unique character, ability to turn a phrase, and a life fully-lived.
