Donald (Don) Kenneth McKay passed away on May 20, 2021, at the age of 70 in Claresholm, AB. He was born in Hanna, AB on July 28, 1950, to Kenneth Alfred William McKay and Freda May (McLean) McKay. He married his long-time love and partner in adventure, Bonnie Turner in October of 2020.
Don loved life and lived it to the fullest. He always had a smile on his face and shared his quick wit and humour along with his infectious laugh. He loved meeting new people and would engage perfect strangers in conversation, genuinely wanting to get to know them. When he asked "How are you?", he truly cared to hear what the other person had to say. Don was incredibly kind and would always lend a helping hand everywhere he went. He and Bonnie enjoyed many adventures travelling in their RV with their dog, Charlie and their cat, Peanut. Don loved live music and he was often on the dance floor making friends with the entire crowd.
He was an incredible person with the ability to do almost anything. In his life, he worked as a farmer, a woodworker, and a mechanic. Don went on to own a number of companies with his first wife and mother of his children, Margaret McKay, including a concrete business specializing in stamping, a home building company, and a land developer. More recently, Don ran his own home renovations and handyman business.
Don is also known as a former President of the Calgary ATV Riders, Boy Scout Leader "Eagle Eye'' (even though he had the worst vision of all!), developer of Yankee Valley Estates, and as a man who balanced hard work with the fun times. He loved his children and was always there to help them out any way he could. His life was full of love and wonderful adventures.
Don is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his son, Matthew McKay and his wife, Kirsten; his daughter, Rebecca McKay and her partner, Shahriar Khan; his stepdaughter, Misty Niles; and the mother of his children, Margaret McKay. He was Papa to Demereace and Natalya Niles and leaves behind siblings Lois Stauffer, Linda Zak, Gordon McKay, and Joseph Bullock. He is predeceased by his brother, Ted Bullock.
God saw how you were struggling
Such effort to just breathe
He wrapped his arms around you
"It's time, my son. Come with me."
Your lungs so tired, heart grown weak
God granted eternal rest
Heaven truly must be glorious
For He summons only the best
Our hearts now ache without you
Though we know you're in that place
Holding tightly to the love we shared
Til once again we see your loving face
