David Donald Simpson October 14, 1932-September 5, 2025
Our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and husband, David Simpson took his last ride on September 5, 2025 at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre, which he called home for the past five years.
David will be forever remembered by his wife Carol, his children, Stanley (Debra) Simpson , Chiki (Arnold) Vegter , Frank (Cindy) Simpson, Flint (Chris) Simpson ,10 grandchildren and 10 Great grandchildren; as well as his sister in laws, Shirley Simpson and Patricia Simpson.
He was preceased by his father David Sr., his mother Antoinette, his sister Yvonne Paul and brothers Ralph and Floyd.
Dave lived his early life in Boundary Creek, Alberta (near Cardston) and in 1942 the family moved to a ranch North of Cowley, Alberta at Tennessee Coulee. He completed grade 8 at Tennessee Coulee School, then saddled up his horse and rode to Waterton to work for Andy Russell at the riding stable. This was the life he loved and in 1958, purchased the riding stable in Waterton and an outfitting area in SE B.C. and called his new business Timbermountain Packtrain. This was just the beginning of his outfitting career that took him through Alberta, B.C., N.W.T. and the Yukon. He ran a Western Store in Pincher Creek and also for a short time in Claresholm. In 1958 he started team roping and this became a passion that he would do in his spare time.
Due to health issues in 1996, he was forced to change his life style, but always a cowboy, he found enjoyment helping ranchers in the Porcupine Hills.
Dave was a member of the Alberta Outfitters Association and served as president. He spent many years on the Claresholm Ag Board and was instrumental in the construction of the Claresholm Agriplex. Dave was also a proud member of the Claresholm Lions Club.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre for their excellent care of Dave during the past five years. Your compassion will never be forgotten.
We have planned a Celebration of Life for David on October 8, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church in Claresholm. All are welcome.
Memorial donations may be made to the "Wandering Willows” Box 700, Claresholm, Alberta T0L 0T0 a Fund Raising society to enhance the social/recreational life for residents of the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre.
