It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Daniel Francis Bennett on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney, Cape Briton, Nova Scotia on July 10th, 1948, Daniel was the son of the late Ross Wilfred Bennett (Regimental Sergeant Major) and Audrey (Boyce) Bennett.
Daniel's early years were marked by travels due to his father's career in the Canadian Armed Forces. He attended various schools abroad before graduating from high school in Nova Scotia. In 1969, Daniel joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), serving in various communities across Alberta until 1973. He then continued his law enforcement career with the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS), where he served with distinction until 2001.
During his tenure with the LPS, Daniel was a major crimes investigator and the head of the SWAT team, specializing in firearms and tactical training. His skills as a shooter and firearms instructor were recognized nationally and internationally, with Daniel representing Lethbridge in various competitions. He won six gold medals, three silver, and two bronze in the Northwest Police and Firefighter Olympics. Daniel retired at the rank of Detective Sergeant and later worked as a licensed private investigator, security consultant, and co-owner of a local security company.
Daniel was deeply committed to his community, dedicating his time to several organizations, including the St. Martha's Parent-Teacher Association, Chinook Country Shooters Club, Lethbridge Athletic Association, and the Hockey Canada Speak Out program.
Daniel is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Bernadette Bennett, and their children: son Travis, son Chase and daughter-in-law Kelsey, and daughter Breanne and son-in-law Tyler. Daniel's legacy of service, dedication, and love for his family and community will be forever remembered.
He will be deeply missed.
