Chuck Johnston, beloved husband, father and brother, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, September 12, 2025.
Chuck was born in Calgary, Alberta on January 30th, 1936. He lived a full life in various communities from British Columbia to Alberta. In the mid fifties he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served for 7 years. He was stationed out of Esquimalt, BC and served on three Navy ships: HMCS Esquimalt, HMCS Cape Breton, and HMCS New Waterford.
He was employed at various jobs over his lifetime from being a Bus Driver in Edmonton to delivering pop throughout Southern Alberta. He worked in mines in Kimberley, Elkford and Sparwood, BC, and did construction work in Calgary. He worked with his brother Jim in the catering business during the 1980’s. He was employed at the Banff Springs Hotel and the Banff Springs Golf Course followed by managing a large apartment complex in Banff.
He always loved puttering and couldn’t seem to sit still. He could fix anything he put his mind to which was a great asset for his different occupations. Chuck will be remembered for his storytelling and his terrific sense of humor. He loved being a prankster and playing tricks, one never knew what to expect. He had an amazing memory and could recount stories from his many experiences during his Navy career and the various jobs he had. His great memory also showed in his ability to recall names of people he had met over the years. He always had a story to tell and several of our family members heard these stories many times, however they never seemed to get old. He will also be remembered for his generosity, his kindness and affection for his friends and family.
His faith was very strong and although he wasn’t able to attend church on a regular basis he always ended every day with prayer.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife Lucille Johnston and her children, his daughters Patty (Will) and Laurel (Mark), stepchildren Mark MacEachern (Katherine), Jennifer MacEachern (Richard)
and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Pat, brother Jim (Bonnie) and numerous nephews and nieces.
