Agnes Doerksen
October 28, 1933 - February 16, 2025
Agnes Doerksen, mother of sons Richard and Robert, and daughter Beth, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the age of 91. She was born in Coaldale, AB but spent many of her younger years living in Yarrow, BC before moving to Vancouver.
Following her school years, she attended Mennonite Brethren Bible College (MBBC) in Winnipeg where she met her future husband, Ben Doerksen.
They were married for 55 years before Ben passed away in 2011 at the age of 78. They lived in both Hepburn, SK and Saskatoon for a lengthy time, with Agnes teaching elementary school in Hepburn for 25 years. She was a beloved teacher who in some instances taught two generations of the same family.
Following their retirements, Ben and Agnes moved to Calgary, where they enjoyed the many benefits, including closer proximity to children and grandchildren, the short drive to the mountains, the warm chinook winds in winter and sunshine year-round.
Agnes was a loving and caring mother, who enjoyed nothing more than traveling on a whim with her children to Waskesiu (a lovely lake in northern Saskatchewan), Regina (especially for the Labor Day Classic), Banff (to ski) and even to Vancouver (to visit her family).
She was a strong, godly woman, who attended Highland MB Church in north Calgary for most of her time in Calgary before attending Southview Alliance in south Calgary in her later years.
Agnes Doerksen leaves to mourn three children and their spouses, Richard and Dori Doerksen of Calgary, Robert and Melinda Doerksen of Okotoks, AB and Wes and Beth Penner of Valleyview, AB. As well, she had eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren who cherished her.
The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Tudor Manor in Okotoks for the tremendous care they provided for Agnes during her time there.
