Annamae Desmeules Obituary

Ann was born on August 29, 1942 in Simcoe, Ontario----the eldest of 4 children to Angus William McLeod, and Edna Jeanette (MacLean) McLeod.  She was named after her Grandmother Anna Mae MacLean of Port Dover, and her Aunt Annie Julia McLeod of Port Arthur.

She was a descendant of a long line of Fishermen and Seafarers on both sides of her Parentage.   The MacLeans and Smiths were Fishermen on her Mothers side of her Family Tree and the McLeods were Fishermen and Hudsons Bay Employees on her Fathers Side.  According to the Red River Metis, Ann was a descendant of one of the first Metis Families through the Andrew Moar family Tree.  Andrew Moar was her Great Great Great Grandfather on her Father’s side of her Ancestry.

She grew up in the Fishing Village of MacDiarmid on Lake Nipigon Ontario and is where she met her husband to be Larry. Ann and Larry were married in a grade 6 school play and then again for real 7 years later. Ann had 4 children; Larry, Charles, Cynthia and Gayle and 10 grandchildren.

Ann loved to paint but had to put her brushes down for a while, with raising a family and being a working mother. Ann had the relocation of her family unit down to a science as the family relocated a total of 10 times before settling in Edmonton. Ann lost her husband in Feb 1993, with all her kids grown and moved out she decided to pursue their shared dream of living in the tropics so she moved to Costa Rica. Health issues unfortunately brought her back to Canada where she enjoyed her grandchildren, camping and painting again. Ann unfortunately had her daughter pass last year in July which had weighed on her spirit but never lost her ability to see the humor in things. Ann is survived by her sister Jenette, her 3 children and 8 grandchildren. Ann will be missed by all her friends and family.
