Alberta Nerbas Obituary

Alberta Nerbas passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital, at the age of 82 years. Alberta was born in Hoey, Saskatchewan in 1937, the 7th of the 12 children born to Albert and Delima Dupuis.  She attended a convent boarding school and obtained her degree in music while completing her secondary education.  She went on to teacher’s college and taught in several small towns in Alberta and Saskatchewan, eventually moving to Hinton where she met and married Rod Nerbas.  After living in several places over the span of Rod’s accounting career, Rod and Alberta retired in the Creston Valley and later moved to Claresholm to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  They had been married for almost 50 years when Rod passed away in 2012.   For the last three years of her life, Alberta lived in a retirement community in Calgary.

Alberta was a gifted pianist and taught piano for many years.  She was a fixture at the piano or organ in any of the parishes she belonged to.  She also enjoyed sewing and gardening and was a dedicated volunteer, giving of her time and talents generously throughout her life.  She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, and extended family, and she seemed to never tire of cooking and baking everyone’s favourite treats when a gathering was planned. Alberta’s passion for life and her perseverance to enjoy it to the fullest were remarkable.  She handled her many health challenges in her later years with amazing grace.  Through every adversity her positive attitude and her thankful heart were an inspiration to many, especially her family.  Alberta was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Mourning her passing and celebrating her life are her four children; Laurel (Kevin) Auch, Michael (Liana McLellan) Nerbas, Tim (Kim) Nerbas and Anita (Ryan) Jackson; and her eight grandchildren; Curtis (Angelica) Auch, Eric (Lindsay Drozdiak) Nerbas, Jeffrey Auch, Scott Nerbas, Leah Auch, Kate Jackson,  Sean Jackson, and Abbey Nerbas.

She is also survived by her sisters, Therese Beauchamp, Dorothy (Harold) Gray, and Paulette Ainsley; brothers, Andy (Helen) Dupuis, Eugene Dupuis, Lou (Donna) Dupuis, and Bernie (Peggi) Dupuis; brother-in-law, Dominique Provencher; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by sisters Denise Provencher, Lucille Dupuis, Helene Kendel, and Diana Mansfield and brothers-in-law Gerald Beauchamp and George Kendel.
